Animales de nuestro bosque (Animals of our forest) | Non Nimea Yoinabo
Roldán and Harry Pinedo

The exhibition by Shipibo artist Shoyan Shëca (San Francisco, Ucayali, 1968), also known as Roldán Pinedo (official name), presents paintings of the fauna of his region, celebrating 25 years since he first presented a series of animal portraits in Lima, at the invitation of historian Pablo Macera.

In this exhibition Shoyan Shëca is presented together with his son, Inin Metsa (Harry Pinedo), guest artist, with whom he has exhibited at the Musée du Quai Branly (Voyages chamaniques, Paris, 2024), the Pinta-Parc fair (Lo que los ojos no ven, 2020) and Matadero-Madrid (Amazonías, 2019), as well as in galleries and fairs in several countries.

Shoyan Shëca or Roldán Pinedo is an artist who claims to belong to the Shipibo people, whose knowledge is deeply connected to a spiritual vision of nature. The artist comments: “The owner of the animals, the chullachaqui, you can hear him yourself when he enters the bush. We should not disturb him by killing his animals for the sake of it. He hides them. Near Pucallpa there are not many animals anymore. What can be found further inland are the huangana, black monkey, ronsoco, deer, peccary, red-necked heron, macaw, curassow, motelo, lizard. There are hardly any tigers or pumas to be found, the loggers have driven them away.

Inin Metsa (Pucallpa, 1988) or Harry Pinedo Valera arrived in Lima at the age of seven, but his place of origin has been the determining factor in his painting. He has developed his craft alongside his parents, with whom he shares his themes.  He has been building his own style, with a freer and more playful interpretation of the mythology of his community.  The Shipibo have allies within nature to prevent it from being depredated; guardian spirits that protect the species from being consumed in excess and, at the same time, are generous to those who respect them.
