Territorio de Papel (Paper Territory)
Alberto Casari, Anamaría McCarthy, Hernán Pazos, Enrique Polanco, Silvia Westphalen y Armando Williams

The group exhibition TERRITORIO DE PAPEL (Paper Territory) features works by renowned Peruvian artists: Alberto Casari, Anamaría McCarthy, Hernán Pazos, Enrique Polanco, Silvia Westphalen, and Armando Williams.

Guillermo Niño de Guzmán, writer, comments on the exhibition, noting that “Paper has always been one of the most widely used supports in the artistic profession, whether for drawing, painting, printmaking, collage, or photography. This exhibition brings together six Peruvian artists whose works on paper reveal a unique aspect of their careers.”

According to Niño de Guzmán, the artists—born between 1955 and 1961—belong to what can be called the Generation of the Eighties, the decade in which they began to explore their artistic talents and to present their first results. He believes that, over the years, each has developed a highly personal body of work that has reached significant levels, complementing their learning and experiences in countries such as France, Italy, China, and the United States.

He adds: “Their innovations and the variety of their approaches revitalized our visual arts, offering a fresh a distinct perspective and encouraging viewers to confront proposals that departed from prevailing taste. Thus, a renewed, fresh, and irreverent attitude crystallized, capable of challenging the conventions that still dominated the local scene. They contribute their unique creations in painting (Casari), photography (McCarthy and Pazos), printmaking in its serigraphy and intaglio forms (Polanco and Williams), and colored pencil drawing (Westphalen). These are versatile artists who have persevered in their craft and who today, in their prime, continue to surprise us with their formal mastery, willingness to take risks, and expressive subtlety.”

The exhibition, curated by Anamaría McCarthy, will remain open until 31 May, Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Free admission at Jirón Ucayali 391, Historic Center of Lima.
