Renata Flores

Isqun is the most recent album by Renata Flores. Winning project of the Economic Stimuli for Culture 2019 of the Ministry of Culture, was published in March 2021. Isqun means “nine”, in Quechua, a number that represents “the reflection of the soul” in the Andean worldview. There are also nine songs that make up this album, sung in Quechua and Spanish. The album rescues the importance of the participation of women in the fight for social justice, with songs such as “Chañan Cori Coca”, dedicated to the legendary Inca warrior who would have fought alongside the Inca Pachacútec against the Chanca people, and others dedicated to Francisca Pizarro, María Parado de Bellido and Rita Puma Justo. Renata Flores was born in Huamanga, Ayacucho, Peru, in 2001 and is a composer and singer of Andean music, pop, hip hop and trap. She became known in 2015 as a result of a cover of “The way you make me feel” by Michael Jackson, sung in Quechua. In 2020, The New York Times called her “the queen of Quechua rap.”
