Fuchs (Lima, 1977) is a visual artist whose work focuses on rethinking family memory and its complex dimensions over time. For more than ten years, he has been working on his photographic series Trans generation (Across generations), where, through channeling, make-up, costumes, and performance, he transforms himself into different men and women from his family tree, exploring identity and family memory.

About his work, the artist explains that he titled his exhibition Travesías del alma (Journeys of the Soul) because “each piece is the result of a journey in which I discover that my identity is made up of many voices. People often ask me: What does this have to do with us? We all carry inherited gestures, emotions we do not fully understand, silences that come from afar. And, when looking at these images, someone will recognise in them something that also belongs to them. Trans generation is not just a mirror, but a fabric where ancestral echoes intertwine our networks with those of other human beings.”

Fuchs has exhibited individually I am my Family at YiweiGallery, Los Angeles, California (2022); and Familia, at the Espacio Valverde gallery in Madrid, as part of Apertura (Gallery Weekend, Madrid, 2023); he has also participated in the Estampa Fair, where he received the Studiolo Collection Award.  He also took part in the Head On Photo Festival in Sydney, Australia. He has exhibited his work at Arco Madrid (2024) and, in the same year, presented a solo exhibition at Galerie PJ in Metz, France. In 2024, he also received the prestigious Pollock-Krasner Fellowship in New York in recognition of his artistic work. He has participated in various art fairs globally, as well as in group exhibitions in 13 countries. His work has been featured in international media such as the BBC, Culture Trip, Lonely Planet, CGTN (China Global Television Network), Vanity Fair and Medium, among others.

This exhibition, which is part of the International Biennial of Contemporary Art (BIENALSUR) and MAC Foto, will be open to the public until 19 September.
