On Friday, 17 April, at 12 noon, the public will be able to view the visual presentation “(In)organic” by Marina García Burgos, a project that questions our relationship with the territory through the contrast of materials.  The exhibition intertwines the fragility of Peruvian ecosystems with the hardness of artificial and historical materials—such as colonial majolica or the metal of obsolete coins—to open a dialogue about memory, value, and the impact of humanity.

The exhibition, curated by Jorge Villacorta, consists of two photographs and a sculptural piece made from coins. In the photographic works—from which the color has been removed—the image is printed onto an irregular composition of majolica tiles.

Regarding the work, the curator comments: “Subjecting a landscape representation to a conceptual and material action that radically transforms it is not the only artistic intention of Marina García Burgos in (In)organic. However, it is what makes this solo exhibition a unique presentation: due to the perceptual shift to which we, the visitors, are subjected, as we are led to a point far removed from the classical conventions that have defined landscape photography.”  He adds that: “In (In)organic, there is a subtle subversion of the photographic lingua franca currently spoken in Peru, through a sculptural approach that questions historical inequality with economic precision.”

Marina García Burgos (Lima, 1968) studied television in Madrid, film in Siena, and photography at the KODAK Center in Lima, the International Center of Photography in New York, and Central Saint Martins School of Art in London. Much of her work stems from her connection to the Peruvian Amazon, where she has met indigenous communities and gathered stories that inform her visual language.  The use of fragile or recycled materials adds an experimental and risky dimension: each attempt is a discovery, each success reveals a landscape that transcends the traditional boundaries of photography.

The exhibition will be open until 31 May; Tuesday through Friday, from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Admission is free.
