For Castellote, “the landscape is a symbolic canvas on which reflections and opinions are expressed that transcend the mere recording of scenarios. From this potential, at once documentary and metaphorical, the artists construct polyphonic visual narratives that illustrate the transition of photography from the aesthetic commitments of modernism to its incorporation into the hybrid uses of contemporary art. In them, a notorious pre-eminence of the urban and natural landscape over the human landscape becomes visible: the scenarios act as metaphors for the subjects”.

The exhibition – the curator points out – has not been constructed with the intention of narrating the history of contemporary Peruvian photography, but the broad spectrum of local works housed in the Jan Mulder Collection has made it possible to analyse the most recent historical strata and the trends of its current production, which are aligned with the multidisciplinary spectrum of current artistic practices.
