History and projection

In the midst of the economic crisis, that Argentina had a few decades ago, the first cardboard publishing house in the world emerged: Eloísa Cartonera (2003). This peculiar way of disseminating and encouraging reading soon took root in different countries and today is already international in scope.
In Peru, the cartonera publishers houses carry out important social work, as thanks to the various activities they carry out, they have managed to incorporate men and women from prisons centres, populations with diverse abilities, the LGTBIQ community, indigenous peoples, among others, into the cultural dialogue. Thus, this exhibition inquired about the history of the first cartoneras publishing houses in the world and the formation of cartoneras publishing houses in Peru. It also showed the experiences of cartoneras in different indigenous communities and the work they have been carrying out in different penitentiary centres in Peru and Latin America.
