Re-veal. Discovering in order to conserve

More than a hundred objects make up the exhibition that brings together the archaeological finds and cultural assets discovered during the restoration of buildings and public spaces in the historic centre of Lima, carried out by PROLIMA.

Some of the most outstanding works on display are the Camino Cross from the Santiago Apostle Church in Cercado, the Cariátide sculpture from the altarpiece of the San Carlos Church and an almoner from the Trinitarias Church. The three buildings are being recovered and the objects will be returned to their place at the end of the exhibition.

“Re-veal: Discovering in order to conserve” will also present ornamental elements of the Historic Centre rescued by PROLIMA. In addition, there will be a complete archaeological collection, with colonial and republican objects, and a section detailing the restoration procedures and techniques used for the restoration of churches.   Finally, one of the rooms will house all the details about the Special Landscape Project for the Rímac River, designed to recover 4 kilometres of our emblematic river.

Luis Martín Bogdanovich, manager of PROLIMA, points out that the recovery of monuments and streets in the centre of Lima ‘redraw spaces of encounter: traditional techniques in wood and metal, as well as archaeology, uncover and unearth deep memories and the recovery of the Rímac River connects us with the essential flow that gives life to the city. Each action is a promise of care and an act of collective creation, in which history, nature and community intertwine. The exhibition invites us to look closely at these initiatives and to understand that, in the act of discovery, we also assume the responsibility to protect. It is a call to dream of a Historic Centre that is not only preserved, but also alive and constantly renewed.
