On Wednesday, 24 September, the Centro Cultural Inca Garcilaso<\/em> of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs will open to the public the exhibition \u201cHijo del clan Siuekuduma, Estrella del amanecer\u201d<\/em> (“Son of the Siuekuduma Clan, Star of Dawn”) by Loreto artist Brus Rubio Churay.<\/p>\n

The artist presents nineteen paintings to honour his male line. A descendant from the Amazonian Indigenous peoples \u2014Bora on the maternal side and Murui on the paternal side\u2014 he explores his identity into the cultural roots that characterize him, to understand the world through this heritage. At the same time, he positions himself as a creator who interprets and engages in dialogue with other cultures and experiences.<\/p>\n

Brus Rubio lives in Pucaurquillo, on the banks of the Ampiyacu River, near the mouth of the Amazon, where he established his workshop. Although he is rooted in his community, he is also an artist with a cosmopolitan outlook. He passionately believes that both indigenous and Western cultures offer valuable knowledge which, when integrated, allows for a broader understanding of life.. His work reflects this dialogue between worlds, a fruitful exchange that neither evades nor conceals the historical injustices committed against his people.<\/p>\n

The clan Estrella del Amanecer<\/em> (\u201cThe Dawning Star Clan\u201d), the central work of the exhibition, is a powerful allegory of the message the artist seeks to convey: the need to preserve ancestral customs. It is a visual meditation on the meaning and evolution of life, dominated by an almost musical energy, a force that invites encounter and harmony. For the painter, \u201cwe are all one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Self-taught, he has held solo exhibitions at the Livia Benavides Gallery, First International Festival of Contemporary Art, Casa Ronald, Monumental (Callao); Xapiri Ground Gallery (Cusco); Bufeo\/Amazon\u00eda+arte, Ricardo Palma Cultural Center (Lima); L\u2019lmaginaire Gallery of the Alliance Fran\u00e7aise (Lima); Maison des Associations du 15\u00e8me and Maison de l\u2019Am\u00e9rique Latine, Lupuna Cultural Association (Paris); Ccori Wasi Cultural Center (Lima); and the Irpay Cultural Center (Iquitos).<\/p>\n

He has participated in several group exhibitions, including the II Bienal das Amazonias (Green-distance), Belem do Par\u00e1 2025, the Milan Triennale and the Cartier Foundation (Milan), Mus\u00e9e du Quai Branly (Paris), Pinta PArc-Peru Contemporary Art Fair 2023, the Center for Social Studies at the University of Coimbra (Brazil), La Parcer\u00eda Cultural Center for Artistic Experimentation and Documentation (Madrid), Matadero-Madrid, Gallery 46 (London), Museum of Contemporary Art-MAC, Florida State University and Bufeo \/Amazon\u00eda+arte (Miami), Carmen Montilla Gallery (Havana), Pata Gallery (Shanghai), the Smithsonian Folklife Festival (Washington DC), and the Cultural Center of Spain (Lima and Buenos Aires).<\/p>\n

He has received the Marie Sk\u0142odowska-Curie Fellowship from the European Union and won the Artist-in-Residence Program at the Matadero Madrid Film Festival. He starred in the documentary “Historias del caucho en la Amazon\u00eda peruana”<\/em> (Stories of caucho in the Peruvian Amazon), produced by the Center for Visual Anthropology and DIGEIBIRA, as well as another produced by Argentine television.
