Feminist networks of a Peruvian intellectual\u2019 was inaugurated in our Cultural Centre.<\/p>\n<p>An educator, intellectual and activist, Mar\u00eda Jes\u00fas Alvarado is considered one of the first feminist theorists in Peru. Her commitment to the social and political context of the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century led her to take up the demand and recognition of the rights of women, children, the workers&#8217; movement and farmer communities. Along the way, she generated national and international networks of activism and reflection that became associations, organisations and civic-feminist groups that were fundamental in obtaining rights for women during the 20<sup>th<\/sup> century.<\/p>\n<p>The curatorship &#8211; by Karen Bernedo &#8211; attempts to understand the collaborative networks in which Mar\u00eda Jes\u00fas Alvarado participated in order to understand the synergy of an interdisciplinary women&#8217;s movement that led the way in the battles for equality that continue to this day.<\/p>\n<p><strong>CONVERSATION<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>In the framework of the bibliographic exhibition, a discussion took place with the participation of Margarita Zegarra, Diana Miloslavich and Karen Bernedo.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Margarita Zegarra<\/strong> is a historian from the <em>Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica del Per\u00fa<\/em> and holds a Master&#8217;s degree in History from the <em>Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos<\/em>. She has been director of the <em>Centro de Documentaci\u00f3n sobre la Mujer<\/em> (Women&#8217;s Documentation Centre) (Cendoc &#8211; Mujer). She currently teaches at the <em>Universidad San Ignacio de Loyola<\/em>. Among her various research projects is the book Mar\u00eda Jes\u00fas Alvarado. The construction of a feminist intellectual in Lima 1878-1971 (2016).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Diana Miloslavich<\/strong> studied literature at the <em>Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos<\/em>. She holds a PhD in social sciences, specialising in history, and a Master&#8217;s degree in Peruvian and Latin American literature from the same university. She currently coordinates the Political Participation and Decentralisation Programme at the Flora Trist\u00e1n Centre. She has published \u201c<em>Mar\u00eda Elena Moyano en Busca de Una Esperanza\u201d<\/em> (1992) and \u201c<em>Literatura de Mujeres. Una mirada desde el feminism\u201d<\/em> (2012).<\/p>\n<p><strong>Karen Bernedo<\/strong> is a social communicator and documentary filmmaker, with a Master&#8217;s degree in visual anthropology and a postgraduate diploma in Gender Studies from the <em>Pontificia Universidad Cat\u00f3lica del Per\u00fa<\/em>. She was responsible for the direction of the documentaries <em>\u201cLas otras memorias\u201d<\/em> and <em>\u201cArte y violencia pol\u00edtica\u201d<\/em>. She teaches at the <em>Universidad Cient\u00edfica del Sur<\/em> and is a consultant for human rights and women&#8217;s rights organisations.
